Abu Dhabi Souks
Information you need about the fabulous souks in Abu Dhabi!.
An essential part of any holiday experience in the Middle East is the chance to explore one of the traditional marketplaces or souks, and haggle with the stallholders in a bid to capture a bargain. Sadly, many of the older market places in Abu Dhabi have been replaced by modern shopping malls as the city has developed, and there are few places as authentic and exciting as the spice souk in Dubai to explore, but the markets that remain offer visitors plenty of opportunities to shop themselves silly.
No visitor should miss a trip down Hamdan Street where there are many stalls and boutiques at the centre of Abu Dhabi’s clothing trade, and it is a great place to pick up both genuine, and not-so-genuine designer goods. Al Nasr Street nearby is also interesting, and has a number of souvenir stalls and carpet shops where you can pick up locally crafted goods. The Old Souk is one of the best places in the world to buy perfume, and the stallholders will be more than happy to make you your own signature scent if you ask them nicely. Across the road in the imaginatively named New Souk, you can buy discount electrical goods and useful household appliances. Make sure they will work in the UK though, as you will not be able to exchange them once you have paid.
